How to prepare for your first barbershop visit
There's no special preparation needed for a first visit, but a few simple steps help you get exactly the result you have in mind.
The most useful thing is to bring one or two reference photos of the haircut you want, taken from different angles: front, side, and back. That communicates the idea far more precisely than a verbal description.
It's worth being upfront with your barber about your daily routine: how much time you're willing to spend styling, whether you use a hair dryer, what products you already have at home. That affects the choice of shape as much as personal preference does.
If you have quirks or "problem areas" — hair that grows in a certain direction, or thinner patches, for example — it's better to mention them upfront rather than hope the barber will notice on their own.
It's fine to show up with clean or slightly unwashed hair — you don't need to arrive perfectly prepped; your barber will wash your hair before the cut if needed.
Don't hesitate to ask questions during the consultation: why this particular shape is being suggested, how long it will hold its look, and whether it suits your hair type. A good barber always explains their recommendations.
