How to choose a men's haircut for your face shape
Face shape is a guideline, not a verdict. It suggests which haircut proportions will visually balance your features, but the final decision always also depends on your hair structure, density, and how much time you're willing to spend styling in the morning.
An oval face is considered the most versatile — most haircut shapes, from a short crop to a longer top, look natural on it. The key here is not to overload the look with extra volume that would throw off the natural balance of proportions.
A round face benefits from haircuts that add height on top and reduce emphasis on the width of the jaw and cheeks. A high fade or textured top with sharp temple lines visually elongates the face. Round shapes on the sides and even volume all over the head are best avoided.
A square face with a pronounced jawline works well with both short and longer haircuts — a strong jawline is already an advantage. A low or mid fade highlights the features without adding extra sharpness.
An elongated or rectangular face benefits from haircuts that add width on the sides without increasing height on top. Styles with less volume at the crown and neat sideburns that visually 'shorten' the face work well here.
These are general guidelines, not a ready-made answer. During a consultation, a barber assesses not just face shape but also hair growth direction, density, and your styling habits — and recommends a shape that will actually work for you.
